Carbon Off-setting & Forest Conservation
Taswira Africa Safaris works with Carbon Tanzania, a forest conservation business that aims to inspire travellers and the travel industry to consider the carbon impact of their safari on both the local and global environment. Carbon emissions from vehicles, energy, aircraft and industry are adding to the acceleration of climate change with the world’s poor feeling the effects most acutely. Carbon Tanzania works with companies, like us, who are minimising their impact by measuring their carbon emissions, reducing them and then offsetting the remaining unavoidable emissions. The emissions generated from your safari vehicle have been offset with the offset payment flowing directly to the forest communities who protect their forest. Carbon Tanzania is Tanzania’s leading supplier of high quality, forest carbon offsets that are certified by international third party, verification organisations.
Carbon Tanzania is able to link carbon offsets with conservation through their method of generating these offsets. When threatened forests are cut down they release their stored carbon. By protecting threated forests from deforestation the trees are able to continue to capture and store carbon, it is this stored carbon that is measured as a carbon offset. Carbon Tanzania works with indigenous communities to protect their forest and its wildlife. The communities earn an income when the offsets are sold which is used to provide community services and fund development projects as determined by the community. This translates to offset revenue building a thriving community and a healthy forest for both Tanzania and the global community.

As our work is dealing with clients from around the world, we do not need resource-heavy offices in Tanzania. Our team work in low impact home offices, thus reducing their carbon footprint through travel and utilities. This also allows our team to have a great work/life balance, which we encourage, without impacting on our high standards. After all… ‘Maisha na safari’.. life is a journey!
Plastic pollution is a serious issue in Tanzania and is negatively impacted by the large numbers of tourists. Millions of plastic bottles supplied by safari operators for their clients, sadly end up in landfill or water ways. Taswira Africa Safaris supply each client with a stainless-steel refillable water bottle and on-board clean drinking water rather than single use plastic bottles.
Another way we reduce our waste is to provide our guests with hot lunches in stainless steel containers, rather than disposable lunch boxes. Every day, thousands of tourists in Tanzania enjoy a packed lunch box with plastic food wrapping, plastic containers and a cardboard box, which all ends up in landfill. On the first day of your safari you may have a lunch box, however this is 100% plastic free, with compostable packaging.
Wherever possible, we partner with with lodges and camps who also minimise their environmental impact, including using solar power, providing clean drinking water (no plastic) and minimising waste..
